What They’re Saying: Pacers Announce Offseason Acquisitions

The Indiana Pacers introduced three new acquisitions Tuesday afternoon at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Monta Ellis, Jordan Hill and Chase Budinger each made their first appearance as a Pacer; Ellis and Hill signing contracts after being free agents, and Budinger following a trade from the Minnesota Timberwolves for Damjan Rudez. Pacers president Larry Bird spoke about each new face, and gave some insight into the team’s plans for Paul George. Find out what they’re saying about the new-look Pacers.

Indy Star: “With the new acquisitions, [Larry] Bird thinks he has the Pacers close to what they’ve been for much of the past five years: one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference.” Read more.

Bleacher Report: “As for the Pacers, Ellis fills a major need, as long as he remains in Indiana. An explosive scorer capable of filling the stat sheet, he’ll give a boost to Indiana’s offense, which ranked 24th in points per game last season. Pairing him with fellow guard Paul George gives the Pacers a fearsome, explosive backcourt and vaults them back to contender status for the coming season.” Read more.

Rant Sports: “Whether Budinger ends up starting or not, he will likely see very consistent playing time with the Pacers. They need some scoring off the bench, and that is exactly what he could bring to the second unit.” Read more.

Indy Sports Central: “Pacers President Larry Bird sees upside in the additions of Ellis, Hill and Budinger, and thinks they’ll help the Pacers return to the playoffs.” Read more.

RTV6 Indianapolis: “With three new faces on the roster for the Indiana Pacers, we wanted to get to know the fresh blood coming to the Circle City.” Read more.
