It was the final day of the Group Stage at the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup, and both Pacers — Damjan Rudez (Croatia) and Luis Scola (Argentina) — took to the court looking to secure their respective places in the Round of 16.
Rudez and Croatia were able to win comfortably against Puerto Rico, 103-82, moving the Croatians to 3-2 for the tournament and clinching their advancement to the next round. In the contest, Rudez contributed six points, hitting one 3-pointer and sinking all three of his free throw attempts.
Argentina, however, faced its toughest opponent of the tournament: an undefeated Greek squad. The Argentines fell 79-71 in a chippy game that saw tempers flare at one point. Scola, who played the role of peace keeper in the feather ruffling, finished the evening with 17 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. An excellent all-around performance for the international veteran.
The match ups for the Round of 16 have been set, with Argentina set to play Brazil on Sunday, and Croatia to face France on Saturday.
