Granger ‘looking good’, will be a full participant in training camp

Pacers head coach Frank Vogel says Danny Granger is looking good and will be a full participant in training camp. He has been scrimmaging with guys for the past two weeks and is hungry to return to his old self.

“Danny’s confident,” said veteran David West. “Danny feels good about where he is, and he’s hungry.”

Granger’s status is undoubtedly the biggest question for the Pacers entering training camp, which gets underway on Saturday. He has dealt with a knee injury since May, 2012 and after a handful of treatments didn’t solve the problem, Granger decided to have surgery on April 4.

Granger said he’s on a four to six month rehab schedule and it hasn’t quite been six months. He believes that while he isn’t quite 100 percent, he is getting close. Training camp, however, is a different beast in itself.

“Coming back from a knee injury, it’s a confident thing,” he said. “A lot of the battle comes in the head as far as can you do the things you used to.”

As for his role, Granger said, “I just want to win, honestly. Our team is so well-balanced, I don’t think scoring will be our problem.”

Vogel says the medical staff has scheduled rest days to ensure Granger isn’t pushing it too far.

“He was here more than anyone on our team,” Vogel said. “By far.”

Added Paul George: “Danny’s ready to go. If we have a game tomorrow, my guess is Danny is going for 30.”

George Hill reiterated what everyone has said, that he’s about back to where he was.

Due to Granger’s injury, which was diagnosed as patellar tendinosis, Granger was in street clothes for all but five games this past season — playing a total of 74 minutes. Until last year, he was the team’s leading scorer for five consecutive seasons. will have more on Granger later today.
