Pacers Adding ‘Hall of Fame’ to Three Retired Jersey Banners
The keen observers at Friday’s Pacers game against the Oklahoma City Thunder noticed something different when they looked overhead. On the west side of Bankers Life Fieldhouse, six banners usually hang in the rafters. However, on Friday night, three were missing.
Pacers.com has learned that the franchise is adding ‘Hall of Fame’ to the banners of Reggie Miller and Mel Daniels, who went into the Naismith Hall of Fame in September, along with the late Roger Brown, who will be inducted this fall.
The banners are expected to be updated and back up in time for the playoffs.
Four of the six banners that hang above are retired jerseys, coincidentally, all numbers in the 30s.
30 – George McGinnis
31 – Reggie Miller
34 – Mel Daniels
35 – Roger Brown
Then, there is one for Coach Bobby ‘Slick’ Leonard, recognizing his 529 wins as the Pacers’ head coach from 1968-1980. The most recent addition, in 2009, was for the late Melvin Simon, who bought the team with his brother, Herb, in 1983. Melvin Simon passed away on Sept. 16, 2009.
